Evening Prayer

You give me your protective shield; your right hand supports me; your willingness to help enables me to prevail. – Ps 18:35 NET

How like a mounting devil in the heart

Rules the unreigned ambition! Let it once

But play the monarch, and its haughty brow

Glows with a beauty that bewilders thought

And unthrones peace forever. Putting on

The very pomp of Lucifer, it turns

The heart to ashes.

– Nathaniel P. Willis

Temperance, in the nobler sense, does not mean a subdued and imperfect energy; it does not mean a stopping short in any good thing, as love or in faith; but it means the power which governs the most intense energy, and prevents its acting in any way but as it ought.

– John Ruskin

Gracious Father, I pray that I may be willing to profit by the experience of great teachers, and appreciate the value of strong principles. May I too live for the higher ideals of life, and through a sympathetic response add power and virtue to other lives, while gaining strength for my own. Amen.

Afternoon Prayer

“Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have with those in need, for such sacrifices are very pleasing to God.”

Hebrews 13:16

Father God, today is a new opportunity for me to reach out in love and lend a helping hand. How easy it is for me to want to keep all that You bless me with, for me. Touch my heart and help me to be a giver, the same way that You have given to me, all the days of my life. Amen

Morning Prayer

Ephesians 6:13-17

In Jesus’ Name, I Pray God’s Will for You Today

I pray that you will put on the full armor of God so that when temptation and trials come, you will be able to stand your ground. I pray that you will stand firm with the belt of truth buckled around your waist; with the breastplate of righteousness in place; and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. May you take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. I pray that you will take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. With the full armor of God, may you advance His kingdom wherever you go.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Morning Prayer

Psalms 77:1-4; 78:35

In Jesus’ Name, I Pray God’s Will for You Today

In times of trial, I pray that you will cry out to God to help you. I pray that you will not rely on your own strength, but humble yourself and turn to Him, for He understands your distress and your sorrow. I pray that you will let Him comfort your soul and strengthen your spirit, for He sees the tears you shed when no one is looking. In times when you are too troubled to speak, I pray that you will just call on God and He will embrace you with peace and comfort. May you always remember that God is your Rock; the Most High is your Redeemer.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Evening Prayer

Even when an army is deployed against me, I do not fear. Even when war is imminent, I remain confident.

Ps 27:3 NET

Soul, rule thyself; on passion, deed, desire,
Lay thou the laws of thy deliberate will.
Stand at thy chosen post, Faith’s sentinel:
Though Hell’s lost legions ring thee round with fire,
Learn to endure.

— Arthur Symonds

The confidence in another man’s virtue is no slight evidence of a man’s own, and God willingly favors such a confidence.

— Montaigne

My Father,

May I ever be kept in remembrance of my virtue, and may I be sensitive to its strength. As I go on my way, keep me within control of the impetuous desires of my nature, and in call of the duties and obligations of my daily life.

Morning Prayer

Proverbs 19:18; 29:17

I pray that God will give you wisdom to raise your children properly. May you understand the importance of discipline and the necessity of applying it consistently. May you never be a willing party to your children's ruin by withholding discipline. I pray that you will not exasperate your children, but instead build a loving relationship with them. May you spend quality time with them and assure them of your love daily. May your children's lives be blessed as you raise them up according to God's Word.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Afternoon Prayer

“Greater is he that is in me than he that is in the world.”

1 John 4:4

Father God,

Today, the car may not start, the pipe may burst, the boss may do me wrong, but let me not forget that Your Spirit lives in me, and that I am called in these moments of trial to stand out in the crowd.

Lauretanian Litany

Heaven is His head

Sun and moon are His eyes.

Ether is His breath.

Fire is His mouth.

Teaching is His breast.

Non-teaching is His back.

Morning Prayer

Jeremiah 17:7-8

I pray that you shall trust in the Lord at all times, putting your confidence in Him so that you will be blessed. May you be like a tree planted by a stream, that sends its roots out to the water, that does not wither when the heat comes. Just like that tree, may you likewise bloom and prosper where God has planted you. May people realize through you, that a life which trusts in God is abundantly blessed. May you not be overcome by worry during difficult times, but instead bear good fruit no matter what your circumstances are. I pray that God will bless you as you trust in Him.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Afternoon Prayer

“I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

Philippians 4:12

Father God,

Today I look around me and though I may not own a Rolls Royce, or live up on the hill in the 20-room mansion, I am blessed. Let me not forget that whether I am abased or abound, I have every reason to give thanks.
