Morning Devotional

And will manifest myself to him.
~ John 14:21

The Lord Jesus gives special revelations of Himself to His people. Even if Scripture did not declare this, there are many of the children of God who could testify the truth of it from their own experience. They have had manifestations of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in a special manner, such as no mere reading or hearing could afford. In the biographies of eminent saints, you will find many instances recorded in which Jesus has been pleased, in a very special manner to speak to their souls, and to unfold the wonders of His person; yes, so have their souls been steeped in happiness that they have thought themselves to be in heaven, whereas they were not there, though they were well near on the threshold of it. For when Jesus manifests Himself to His people it is heaven on earth; it is paradise in embryo; it is bliss begun!

These special manifestations of Christ, exercise a holy influence on the believer’s heart.

One effect will be humility. If a man says, “I have had such-and-such spiritual communications, therefore I am a great man,” he has never had any communion with Jesus at all; for “God has respect unto the lowly but the proud He knows afar off.” He does not need to come near them to know them, and will never give them any visits of love.

Another effect will be happiness; for in God’s presence there are pleasures for evermore.

Holiness will be sure to follow. A man who has no holiness has never had this manifestation. Some men profess a great deal; but we must not believe anyone—unless we see that his deeds answer to what he says. “Do not be deceived; God is not mocked.” He will not bestow His favors upon the wicked for while He will not cast away a godly man, neither will He respect an evil doer. Thus there will be three effects of nearness to Jesus humility, happiness, and holiness. May God give them to you, Christian!

I Create

I create the light and make the darkness. I send good times and bad times. I, the LORD, am the one who does these things.
~ Isaiah 45:7 [NLT]

It’s difficult to enjoy the day without the night and the night without the day. God created both. As believers, it can be smooth sailing until we hit a rough patch. However, few things will grow your faith more than experiencing a pivotal circumstance in your life. God uses these events to deepen your relationship with Him. Think back on your walk with Christ, did you experience a deepening of your relationship after just such an occasion? Does this impact your perspective on the bad times?

Listen Up

Listen to my prayer, O God. Do not ignore my cry for help! 2 Please listen and answer me, for I am overwhelmed by my troubles.
~ Psalm 55:1-2 [NLT]

God hears our cries for help.  When we face troubles, call out to God for help.  Ask Him to listen up and answer your prayers.  He cares for you and it’s okay to be real about how you’re feeling as you face overwhelming circumstances.

Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls.
~ 1 Peter 2:11 [NLT]

Do you ever feel as though truly living at Christ-like life is impossible?  The struggle to commit our lives to Jesus and faithfully serve Him is real! All the worldly voices we hear from the culture go against or work to distract us from what the Bible teaches.  Be reminded, we are not citizens of this world.  We have to fight to keep our eyes on Jesus and to live as though we are citizens of Heaven.

Morning Devotional

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;”

Repentance is not a prayer. It means to take your thinking back to the top—for your mind to take a 180-degree turn! If there’s an area of your life that isn’t heading in the right direction… repent! Today, change your mind. Don’t do it your way. Take your thinking back to the top and do it God’s way!

Father, I’m not doing things my way anymore. I’m taking my thinking back to the top! I’m going to live life Your way. I’m not leaning on my own understanding… God I choose to lean on You! In Jesus’ name, amen!

Will I take that 180-degree turn in my thinking?
Will I live life His way, and not my own?

And You Must

And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’
~ Mark 12:30 [NLT]

Jesus explains to his disciples that this is the most important of all the commandments! We must love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.  Pray these words over the ones you love. The most important thing we can do in our lives is grow to be people that love God wholeheartedly.
