Jesus Always

Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of Joy. So do not despise your tears, My child; they are precious to Me. Someday I will wipe every tear from your eyes, but for now you inhabit a vale of tears. Just as water is necessary for seeds to grow into plants, your tears help you grow into a stronger, more joyful Christian. Your willingness to share in the sorrow of this deeply fallen world gives you depth and compassion. It also enlarges your capacity for Joy—your ability to enjoy Me in good times and tough times. Songs of Joy have been your birthright ever since you became My follower. Do not neglect this delightful way of worshiping Me and lifting your spirits. Even though it is counterintuitive to sing praises when you’re feeling sad, this is a powerful way to lift your heart to Me. As your Joy in Me encounters My delight in you, you can frolic in the Light of My Presence.
This is the Joy of the Lord!

Dear Jesus

I guarantee you will always have problems in your life, but they must not become your focus. When you feel yourself sinking in the sea of circumstances, cry out: “Help me, Jesus!” and I will draw you back to Me.

Dear Jesus,

Guarantees are usually about something positive, but this one (about constant problems) has a negative feel to it. It reminds me of a parent saying to a wailing child, “If you keep on crying, I’ll give you something to cry about!” However, I know You well enough to trust that Your motive is not to threaten me but to help me.

Beloved, I do indeed want to help you deal with the problems in your life. There are a variety of wrong ways to handle difficulties: Some people simply pretend they don’t exist—like ostriches hiding their heads in the sand. You, however, tend to go to the other extreme: You focus on problems much more than necessary. When you give in to this tendency, you become anxious and disheartened. I am training you to pry your mind away from trouble, so you can fix your thoughts on Me. You are making progress, but you need to persevere in directing wayward thoughts toward Me.

One of the most challenging situations is when you are faced with many difficulties at the same time. You start to feel overwhelmed as your mind goes into high gear, trying to take care of everything at once. Your thoughts play hopscotch—jumping from one problem to the next, then turning around and jumping back again. If this continues too long, you become exhausted and begin to sink in the swirling sea of your circumstances. At this point, your emotional pain will alert you to your need for help. In a split second you can cry out: “Help me, Jesus!” and I will come to your rescue. As I pull you away from your problems, I draw you close to Me. While you gaze at Me, your panic begins to subside and you regain some sense of security. As you take time to enjoy My Presence, I bless you with My Peace.

Therefore . . . fix your thoughts on Jesus.
~ Hebrews 3:1

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
~ Psalm 145:18

For He Himself is our peace.
~ Ephesians 2:14 [NKJV]

Jesus Calling

I UNDERSTAND HOW VULNERABLE YOU ARE to things that impact your senses. Because of this human tendency, My Word exhorts you to be alert and prayerful—fixing your eyes on Me, bringing every thought captive to Me. Bring Me your restless heart, and wait while I speak Peace into its depths—stilling the troubled waters of your soul.

Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
~ MARK 4:39 [NKJV]

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Before You Turn Out the Light: Find a quiet place, away from the noise of the world, where you can listen in My Presence and hear My voice.

Jesus Lives

Do not dread walking through the valley of the shadow of death. My radiant Presence shines brightly in that deep, sunless valley—strengthening, encouraging, and comforting you. Beloved, there is no valley or pit so deep and dark that I cannot see all the way to the bottom of it. Even if you wander from Me and fall into a slimy pit, you need not despair. When you cry out to Me, I will lift you out of the mud and mire and set your feet on a rock—giving you a firm place to stand.

Whenever you start to feel afraid, remember that I—your Shepherd—am armed. I am never without My rod of protection, and I use it with deadly accuracy. My shepherd’s staff is for guiding you. The hooked end of the staff is perfect for pulling you back from danger or rescuing you when you have fallen out of arm’s reach. Find comfort in the constant protection and guidance I provide.

“As you face your fears, remember that I am the One who goes before you and will be with you; I will never leave you. While you are walking through the valley of adversity, let these ten short words cascade through your mind: I will fear no evil, for You are with me.”

“Yes, though I walk through the [deep, sunless] valley of the shadow of death, I will fear or dread no evil, for You are with me; Your rod [to protect] and Your staff [to guide], they comfort me.”

~ Psalm 23:4 [AMP]

“I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.

~ Psalm 40:1–2”

“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”

~ John 10:11 [NKJV]

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

Jesus Always

I am richly present in the world around you, in the Word, and in your heart through My Spirit. Ask Me to open the eyes of your heart so that you can “see” Me—for I am lovingly present in all your moments. It’s vital to set aside blocks of time for seeking My Face. This requires sustained mental discipline: pulling your thoughts back from the idols that entice you and choosing to think about Me. I am the living Word, so you will find Me vibrantly present when you search for Me in the Scriptures.

I created breathtaking beauty in the world, to point you to the One who made everything. Without Me, nothing was made that has been made. Whenever you are enjoying something beautiful, thank Me. This pleases Me, and it also increases your pleasure. When you encounter difficult, ugly things in this broken world, trust Me then too. Keep looking for Me in the midst of your good times and your hard times. Find hope and comfort through knowing that all your times are in My hands.

STAY CALMLY CONSCIOUS OF ME today, no matter what. Remember that I go before you as well as with you into the day. Nothing takes Me by surprise. I will not allow circumstances to overwhelm you so long as you look to Me. I will help you cope with whatever the moment presents. Collaborating with Me brings blessings that far outweigh all your troubles. Awareness of My Presence contains Joy that can endure all eventualities.

His Sufficiency

In this scattered, fragmented world I am the central Reality that holds everything together. When you keep your focus on Me, your life has meaning and beauty. Without Me the world would be utterly desolate—without meaning or hope. I came into the world to show you the way to the Father, the way to eternal Life. However, I am infinitely more than a sign pointing you in the right direction. I Myself am the Way. Since I and My Father are one, I am Almighty God! Yet I condescended to become a man so I could bear your sins and be your Friend. I also wanted to show you the Father’s Face—in and through Me.

Everything you need is concentrated in Me. Truth is in short supply in the world, but I am the Truth. As you fill your heart and mind with the wonders of My glorious Being, I keep your mind in bright focus—driving back the darkness of worldly thinking. This creates sacred space within you—space where My very Life can thrive.

There is no way to eternal Life besides Me, but you need no other way. Why would you want to follow a man-made path when My path of Life is wide open before you? This path glows with My radiant Presence, and it stretches all the way into eternity. As you persevere along this way with Me, I give you samples of forevermore-pleasures.

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

“I and My Father are one.”

~ John 10:30 [NKJV]

The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.

~ Hebrews 1:3

You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

YOUR DIFFICULTIES DO NOT SIGNIFY LACK OF FAITH or lack of blessing—they are means to help you stay on the path I have chosen for you. Though the way before you may be steep and rocky, it is nonetheless the path of Life. It is where you encounter My luminous Presence, radiating Peace that transcends your limitations.

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.

Dear Jesus

The true question is not whether you can cope with whatever happens but whether you and I together can handle anything that occurs. It is this you-and-I-together factor that gives you confidence to face the day cheerfully.

Dear Jesus,

I really want to live this day confidently and cheerfully. That seems only fitting, since I am one of Your followers. But I often begin the day wondering how demanding it will be and whether I’ll be able to cope. Help me in my unbelief!

Beloved, come to Me in your state of unbelief. I want you to experience My loving you perfectly even when your faith seems weak. Many of My followers wake up in a foggy, frazzled state of mind—as you do. However, I can see into your heart, where I find genuine trust in Me. Your challenge each morning is to untangle your thoughts so that they line up with the faith in your heart. You need to set aside adequate time each morning for this vital task. I want you to stay in My Presence—reading Scripture, praying, meditating on Me—till your mind is clear.

When you begin the day with a muddled mind, you tend to ask yourself the wrong question: whether you will be able to cope with whatever happens. But the true question is whether you and I together can handle the circumstances you face. As you look forward into the day, broaden your perspective so you can “see” Me there alongside you—strengthening, guiding, and encouraging you. If you omit this you-and-I-together factor from your perspective, you miss out on the help I am offering. So, as you work to unscramble your thinking, focus on who I am: Immanuel—God with you. While you meditate on this joyous focus, the qualms you had about the day will gradually give way to cheerful confidence.

I can do everything through him who gives me strength.

“The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.”
