Freedom in Him

Come to Me when you are hurting, and I will share your pain. Come to Me when you are joyful, and I will share your Joy—multiplying it many times over.

I invite you to come to Me just as you are—no matter what condition you’re in. You don’t have to clean up your act first, since I already know the worst about you. When you’re hurting, you want to be with someone who understands you without condemning you. When you’re happy, you delight in being with someone who loves you enough to celebrate with you. I understand you compassionately and love you exuberantly, so bring more and more of yourself to Me.

Most people are selective about which parts of themselves they share with Me. Some hesitate to bring Me the traits they consider shameful. Others are so used to living with painful feelings—loneliness, fear, guilt—that it never occurs to them to ask for help in dealing with these things. Still others get so preoccupied with their struggles that they forget I’m even here.

There are hurting parts of you that I desire to heal. However, some of them have been with you so long that you consider them part of your identity. You carry them with you wherever you go, with little awareness. On occasions when you have brought some damaged portion of yourself to Me, I have helped you walk in newfound freedom. However, you are so addicted to certain painful patterns that you cannot easily break free from them. Only repeatedly exposing them to My healing Presence will bring you long-term freedom. When that happens, you will be released to experience Joy in much fuller measure. I will share your Joy and multiply it many times over.

Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

His Forgiveness

As you come to know Me more intimately, you grow increasingly aware of your sins. This presents you with a continual choice—to focus on your flaws and failures or to rejoice in My glorious gift of salvation. When My ultimate sacrifice is your focus, you live in joyful assurance of being wondrously loved. There is no greater Love than this, and it is yours every nanosecond of your life. The best response to such Love is to love Me with your whole being. Of course, your loving Me is not what saves you, but it does demonstrate your grateful awareness of how much I forgive you.

Tragically, many people think they have little—if anything—for Me to forgive. They have been deceived by the prevailing lie that there is no absolute truth. They think good and evil are relative terms; therefore, they see no need for a Savior. These deceived ones do not seek My forgiveness, so their sins are not forgiven and they have no love for Me. Their minds remain darkened by the evil one’s deceptions. Only My Love-Light can penetrate that thick darkness. As you walk in the Light of My Presence, let My Love flow through you to others, shining into their darkness. Because you are My follower, you never walk in darkness—you have the Light of Life!

But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me.

Jesus Always

Rejoice always! This is one of the shortest verses in the Bible, but it is radiant with heavenly Light. I made you in My image, and I crafted you with the ability to choose Joy in the moments of your life. When your mind is going down an unpleasant, gloomy path, stop it in its tracks with this glorious command. See how many times each day you can remind yourself to rejoice.

It is important not only to be joyful but to think about specific reasons for rejoicing. They can be as simple as My daily provisions for you—food, shelter, clothing. Relationships with loved ones can also be a rich source of Joy. Since you are My beloved, your relationship with Me is an ever-present wellspring of gladness. These joyful thoughts will light up both your mind and your heart, enabling you to find more pleasure in your life.

Choosing to rejoice will bless you and those around you. It will also strengthen your relationship with Me.

Rejoice always.

HIS PRESENCE

I will never leave you or forsake you. Many of My followers think they have to jump through all the right hoops to “stay in fellowship” with Me. If that were true, they would never be able to enjoy My Presence. They would have to be perfect to gain an audience with Me. Instead of striving to be good enough, I invite you to come confidently into My bright Presence.

If you walk in the Light as I am in the Light, My blood continually cleanses you from all sin. When you become aware of sins, I want you to confess them and seek My help in making needed changes. Nonetheless, your status with Me is not based on confessing your sins quickly enough or thoroughly enough. The only thing that keeps you right with Me is My perfect righteousness, which I gave you freely and permanently when you joined My royal family.

Walking in the Light of My Presence blesses you in many ways. Good things are better and bad things more bearable when you share them with Me. As you bask in My Love-Light, you are better able to love others and enjoy fellowship with them. You are less likely to stumble or fall, because sins are garishly obvious in My holy Light. As you walk in this Light with Me, I encourage you to exult in My righteousness.

Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.

Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you, who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord. They rejoice in your name all day long; they exult in your righteousness.

Jesus Always

Be still in My presence, and wait patiently for Me to act. Stillness is a rare commodity in this world. Many people judge themselves and their day by how much they have accomplished. Resting in My Presence is usually not one of those accomplishments. Yet how much blessing can be found in this holy rest!

Peace and Joy abound in My Presence, but it takes time for them to soak into your inner being. It also takes trust. Instead of fussing and fuming when your plans are thwarted, wait patiently for Me to act. You can watch in hope for Me because I am God your Savior. Be assured that I will hear you. I may not answer as soon as you would like, but I always respond to your prayers in the best way.

Don’t worry about evil people or fret about their wicked schemes. I laugh at the wicked, for I know their day is coming. Rest in Me, beloved. Be still, and know that I am God.

Dear Jesus

I am ever so near you, hovering over your shoulder, reading every thought. People think that thoughts are fleeting and worthless, but yours are precious to Me.

Dear Jesus,

This is glorious—yet disconcerting! My thinking is not only the part of me that feels most hidden and secret; it is also the most difficult part of my behavior to master. In relationships with other people I can interact with them while keeping my secret thoughts to myself. Your ability to read my every thought is alarming, but it is also wonderful. It’s a relief that there is Someone from whom I cannot hide: Secretiveness breeds loneliness. Moreover, the fact that You care about every aspect of me—even all my thoughts—demonstrates how important I am to You.

Beloved, I know how difficult it is for you to control your thoughts. Your mind is a battleground, and evil spirits work tirelessly to influence your thinking: even deceiving you with intrusive thoughts at times. Your own sinfulness also finds ample expression in your thoughts. You need to stay alert and fight against evil! I fought and died for you, so remember who you are and Whose you are. Thus, you put on the helmet of salvation. This helmet not only protects your mind, it also reminds you of the victory I secured for you on the cross.

Your thoughts are precious to Me because you are My treasure. As soon as your thinking turns My way, I notice and rejoice. The more thoughts you bring to Me, the more you can share in My Joy. I disarm evil thoughts and render them powerless. Then I help you think about things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable—excellent and praiseworthy things. Ponder these things, while resting in the Peace of My Presence.

O Lord, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.

THANKFULNESS

A thankful attitude opens windows of heaven through which spiritual blessings fall freely. And all I require to rain those blessings on you is your gratitude! It seems such a simple choice; yet you stumble over it almost every day of your life. Let Me help you become more grateful so you can receive bountiful blessings through those openings into eternity.

As you go about your day, keep these things in mind: Throughout the Bible I repeatedly command thankfulness because it is vital to your well-being. It is also crucial for a healthy relationship with Me, since I am your Creator, your Savior, your King. When you thank Me, you acknowledge how much I have done for you. This attitude brings Joy both to you and to Me.

Giving thanks is similar to priming a pump with water so that it will produce more water. Since thankfulness is one of the spiritual blessings I bestow on you, it will increase along with the others when you “prime” Me with thanksgiving.

Remember that I am the God of all grace. When you fail in your endeavor to be thankful, simply ask Me for forgiveness. As you freely receive this priceless gift—thinking about what it cost Me—your gratitude will grow. Look up to Me and see spiritual blessings cascading down upon you through heaven’s wide-open windows.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.
