Jesus Calling

INSTEAD OF TRYING TO PLEASE PEOPLE so they will give you what you want, trust in Me—the Supplier of all your needs. Because I remain the same forever, I am absolutely dependable. Trusting in people is risky; trusting in Me is wise. It keeps you safe.

Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD is kept safe.

[PROVERBS 29:25]

But you remain the same, and your years will never end.

Before You Turn Out the Light

Include Me in your thinking as you are making plans. Let your desire to please Me illuminate your thoughts and choices.

Jesus Lives

In My Presence you have infinite approval. You often judge yourself on the basis of what you see in the mirror, even though you know how fickle and shallow that ever-changing image is. You tend to be equally enslaved to viewing yourself through the eyes of other people, rigorously evaluating your personal performance and almost always feeling displeased with something you’ve said or done.

“Enslaved” is an appropriate word. You are indeed a slave when you try to measure yourself through any perspective but Mine. Evaluating your worth based on how you look, to yourself or to others, is always a trap. It’s as if you are sifting sand in a search for gold—looking only at the grains of sand filtering through the sieve, while ignoring the priceless nuggets that remain. The gold represents the eternal part of you: your soul. It is invisible to everyone but Me, the One who plans to spend eternity with you. Though invisible, a well-nurtured soul can actually improve your appearance: As you rest in the certainty of My unfailing Love, your face glows with the Joy of My Presence.

My approval of you is infinite because it will continue forever. It is based entirely on My righteousness, which is yours for all eternity. When you look in a mirror, try to see yourself as you truly are—arrayed in perfect righteousness, adorned in glowing approval.

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

[Psalm 90:14]

Surely you have granted him eternal blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.

[Psalm 21:6]

I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

[Isaiah 61:10]

Jesus Calling

I AM NEARER than you think, richly present in all your moments. You are connected to Me by Love-bonds that nothing can sever. However, you may sometimes feel alone because your union with Me is invisible. Ask Me to open your eyes so that you can find Me everywhere. The more aware you are of My Presence, the safer you feel. This is not some sort of escape from reality; it is tuning in to ultimate reality. I am far more Real than the world you can see, hear, and touch. Faith is the confirmation of things we do not see and the conviction of their reality, perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses.

[PSALM 90:14; ACTS 17:27–28; HEBREWS 11:1 AMP]

Jesus Lives

FAITH My Light shines on you continually, whether you are aware of it or not. During the wee hours of the night, your thoughts are often distorted—even catastrophic. Although you may feel as if you’re enveloped in darkness, remember that darkness and light are alike to Me. I am with you, and My Love for you never fails. You need the Light of My Presence supremely more than you need the light of day.

When the way before you seems dark and threatening, you can still trust Me to guide you. Walking by faith is akin to using radar to discern the way you should go. Instead of trying to see through clouds of uncertainty up ahead, fix your eyes on Me. I can show you a way forward where there appears to be none. Moreover, as you strive to stay in communication with Me, your soul opens up to Me. Even in the midst of your struggle, My loving Presence can fill your soul with warm delight.

Even the darkness is not dark to You, and the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.

[Psalm 139:12]

For we walk by faith, not by sight.

[2 Corinthians 5:7]

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul.

[Psalm 143:8]

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

[Hebrews 12:2]

Dear Jesus

Thank Me for the gift of My Peace: a gift of such immense proportions that you cannot fathom its depth or breadth.

Dear Jesus,

I have searched for Peace in many different places, but only Yours is real and enduring. Wonderful as Your Peace is, it often eludes me. When I let down my guard, anxiety creeps in without my permission. It tugs at the corners of my mind, drawing me away from awareness of You. Please teach me how to enjoy Your Peace more continually.

Beloved, you can thank Me for the gift of My Peace even when you’re feeling anxious. My Peace is not so much a feeling as it is an unchangeable condition. It is permanent forgiveness: My eternal gift to you through My blood. I am not only the Giver of true Peace; I Myself am your Peace. It is every bit as available to you as I am. When you seek My Presence and find Me, you also encounter My Peace.

Thanking Me for the gift of My Peace, regardless of how you feel, is ultimately an act of trust. Your gratitude and trust will draw you closer to Me—the Lord of Peace. Rejoice as you explore with Me the immense proportions of My gift: Peace at all times and in every way!

For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

[Colossians 1:19–20]

For he himself is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.

[Ephesians 2:14]

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

[1 Peter 5:7]

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.

[2 Thessalonians 3:16]

Rejoice in Me always. This is a moment-by-moment choice. It is possible to find Joy in Me even during the most difficult times. Because I am always near, I am constantly available to help you. I can even carry you through times of extreme adversity.

Imagine a woman who has become engaged to a man she deeply loves and admires. Her heart overflows with pleasure whenever she thinks about her beloved. Problems fade into the background, unable to dampen her enthusiasm and excitement. Similarly, when you remember that I am your perfect Betrothed and that you are promised to Me forever, you can rejoice in Me even though you face many problems.

It is in the present moment that you find Me ever near you. My Presence in the present is an endless source of Joy: a continual feast! The soul-satisfaction you find in Me helps you relate well to other people. As you enjoy My abiding Presence, you can bless others with your gentleness.

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

[Philippians 4:4–5]

All the days of the afflicted are evil, but he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast.

[Proverbs 15:15]

My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

[Psalm 63:5]

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

[John 15:4]

Dear Jesus

Marvel at the awesome wonder of being able to commune with the King of the universe any time, any place. Never take this amazing privilege for granted!

Dear Jesus,

I confess that often I do take this awesome prayer-privilege for granted. Even worse, at times I act as if I’m doing You a favor by spending time talking with You. Forgive me for my foolish arrogance!

Beloved, I am pleased that you recognize and repent of your foolishness. The best antidote to such thoughts is remembering who I Am: King of kings and Lord of lords, dwelling in dazzlingly unapproachable Light.

My eyes are like blazing fire. My voice is like the sound of rushing waters. My face is like the sun shining in all its brilliance. I am also your Shepherd, tenderly leading you step by step through your life. I want you to realize how precious you are to Me—how much I delight in you. I long for you to reciprocate by delighting in Me.

I listen to your heart as well as to your words. When you approach My throne of grace joyfully, anticipating the wondrous pleasure of communing with Me, both you and I are blessed!

God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen.

[1 Timothy 6:15–16]

His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.

[Revelation 1:14–16]

His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.
[Revelation 1:14–16]

Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
