Jesus Calling

I WANT ALL PEOPLE to revere My Name, regarding it as sacred because it represents Me. Since you honor My Name, you are free to enjoy the good things I have promised: healing in the intimacy of My Presence, exuberant Joy that cannot be contained, and much more. As you bask in these delightful blessings, remember to tell others about your glorious King; then they also can become worshipers who praise My holy Name.

But unto you who revere and worshipfully fear My name shall the Sun of Righteousness arise with healing in His wings and His beams, and you shall go forth … like calves [released] from the stall and leap for joy.

You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.

~ EXODUS 20:7

Before You Turn Out the Light: Conduct yourself so that My Name is upheld in both your conversations and your actions.

Jesus Always

I have engraved you on the palms of My hands, and this is an eternal commitment. Nothing could ever scrape off or corrode this inscription, for you are My treasured, blood-bought possession.

Engraving on precious metals is a practice that is meant to be permanent. However, the etching may wear off over the years, and sometimes these objects are lost or stolen or melted down. So, put first things first, beloved. Precious metals like gold and silver have some value in the world. But they are as worthless as rubbish compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Me forever!

Since you are written on the palms of My hands, you can be assured that you are always visible to Me. People sometimes jot notes on their palms to remind themselves of something important. I have engraved you on My palms because you are eternally precious to Me. Rejoice in the wonder of knowing that I—the King of the universe—consider you a priceless treasure! Respond by treasuring Me above all else.

Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger. Although this is a biblical command, anger is treated as taboo in many Christian circles. Repression of this normal, human emotion is neither righteous nor healthy; in fact, it can lead to serious problems. If you fail to recognize your anger, you are likely to let the sun go down on it and take it to bed. This gives the devil an opportunity—a place of entrance into your life. It can also result in various health problems. Therefore, early recognition of these powerful feelings is vital. The command Be angry gives you permission to have such feelings, so you are free to face them openly. You do, however, need to be careful how you express them.

The first step is to bring your anger to Me. I will help you discern whether or not it is legitimate. If it is, then I will help you figure out what to do about it. Anger can be a signal that something is wrong and needs to be addressed. Sometimes, though, your wrathful feelings are based on distortions: misunderstandings or misinterpretations. Recognizing such distortions can be very freeing. If you have not acted on these feelings in hurtful ways, you can simply release them. However, if you have dealt with your anger in sinful ways, you will need to ask forgiveness of Me and anyone else you have hurt.

Remember that I came to make you free. Dealing with anger in a responsible way frees you to live abundantly, enjoying My Presence more fully.

Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.

~ Ephesians 4:26–27 [NASB]

Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.

~ Psalm 51:4

“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

~ John 8:32 [NKJV]

Jesus Lives

Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet My unfailing Love for you will not be shaken nor My covenant of Peace be removed. Nothing on earth seems as enduring or immovable as huge, majestic mountains. When you stand on their heights—breathing in that rarified air—you can almost smell eternity. Yet My Love and Peace are even more enduring than the greatest mountain on earth!

Think deeply about My unfailing Love. One of the meanings of “unfailing” is: inexhaustible. No matter how needy you are or how many times you fail Me, My supply of Love for you will never run low. Another meaning of “unfailing” is: constant. I do not love you more on days when you perform well, nor do I love you less when you fail miserably. My Love is more persistent, invariable, and steadfast than you can comprehend. Open your heart to receive this amazing gift in full measure.

My covenant of Peace is a sovereign gift of grace, and it is utterly secure. I can no more withdraw this blessing from you than I can stop being God. Moreover, I Myself am your Peace. So the more intimately you know Me, the more you can experience My unfathomable Peace. Take time, take time to draw near Me; seek Me in the moments of your life. Come freely into My Presence even when you are feeling bad about yourself. Remember who I am—the Lord who has compassion on you.

“Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

~ Isaiah 54:10

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail.

~ Isaiah 51:6

For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation.

~ Ephesians 2:14 [NKJV]

Jesus Always

Trust Me and don’t be afraid. Do not be frightened by world events or news reports. These reports are biased ~ presented as if I do not exist. News clips show tiny bits of world events from which the most important factor has been carefully removed: My Presence in the world. As journalists sift through massive amounts of information, they strain out everything about Me and what I’m accomplishing on the earth.

Whenever your world is feeling like a scary place, turn to Me and encourage yourself in My Presence. Follow the example of David, who strengthened himself in the Lord when his men were threatening to stone him. You also can find courage through remembering who I am. Ponder My awesome Glory and Power; delight in My unfailing Love. Rejoice that you are on an adventurous journey with Me and your ultimate destination is heaven. As you keep focusing on Me and enjoying the rich relationship I offer you, fear will subside and Joy will rise up within you. Trust in Me wholeheartedly, beloved, for I am your Strength and your Song.

Isaiah 12:2; Exodus 33:14; 1 Samuel 30:6 [NKJV]

Dear Jesus

I have designed you to need Me moment by moment. As your awareness of your neediness increases, so does your realization of My abundant sufficiency.

Dear Jesus,

The longer I live, the more aware I become of my neediness. Many people—as they gain life experience—seem to become increasingly confident about the accuracy of their opinions. I, on the other hand, am increasingly aware that my understanding is like the tip of an iceberg: What I don’t comprehend is so much greater than what I actually understand. This is just one of many areas where my neediness has become more apparent to me.

Beloved, recognizing the limits of your understanding is good, because it can enhance your relationship with Me. You need Me continually ~ not only for daily bread and blessings, but also for the myriad decisions you must make each day. If you had greater confidence in your knowledge and opinions, you might feel more comfortable. But walking close to Me on the path of Life is far more important than comfort. Remember that the road leading to Life is a narrow one, and only a few find it. So don’t expect your journey along this path to be easy. Awareness of your neediness helps you receive many blessings from Me. As you come to Me with your vast insufficiency, I draw near you with My infinite sufficiency. My abundant supply and your needy condition fit together perfectly ~ keeping you intimately connected to Me. The more consistently you rely on Me, the better your life will be. Not only will I meet all your needs through My glorious riches, I will also delight you with the Joy of My Presence. This is the way I want you to live: in joyful dependence on Me!

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

~ Philippians 4:19

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

~ Matthew 7:13–14

Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight.

~ Psalm 43:4

Jesus Calling

TO LIVE IN My Presence consistently, you must expose and expel your rebellious tendencies. When something interferes with your plans or desires, you tend to resent the interference. Try to become aware of each resentment, however petty it may seem. Don’t push those unpleasant feelings down; instead, let them come to the surface where you can deal with them. Ask My Spirit to increase your awareness of resentful feelings. Bring them boldly into the Light of My Presence so that I can free you from them.

The ultimate solution to rebellious tendencies is submission to My authority over you. Intellectually, you rejoice in My sovereignty, without which the world would be a terrifying place. But when My sovereign will encroaches on your little domain of control, you often react with telltale resentment.

The best response to losses or thwarted hopes is praise: The LORD gives and the LORD takes away. Blessed be the name of the LORD . Remember that all good things ~ your possessions, your family and friends, your health and abilities, your time ~ are gifts from Me. Instead of feeling entitled to all these blessings, respond to them with gratitude. Be prepared to let go of anything I take from you, but never let go of My hand!

Jesus Always

Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of Joy. So do not despise your tears, My child; they are precious to Me. Someday I will wipe every tear from your eyes, but for now you inhabit a vale of tears. Just as water is necessary for seeds to grow into plants, your tears help you grow into a stronger, more joyful Christian. Your willingness to share in the sorrow of this deeply fallen world gives you depth and compassion. It also enlarges your capacity for Joy—your ability to enjoy Me in good times and tough times. Songs of Joy have been your birthright ever since you became My follower. Do not neglect this delightful way of worshiping Me and lifting your spirits. Even though it is counterintuitive to sing praises when you’re feeling sad, this is a powerful way to lift your heart to Me. As your Joy in Me encounters My delight in you, you can frolic in the Light of My Presence.
This is the Joy of the Lord!

Psalm 12 6:5–6; Revelation 21:4; Isaiah 62:4; Nehemiah 8:10

Dear Jesus

I guarantee you will always have problems in your life, but they must not become your focus. When you feel yourself sinking in the sea of circumstances, cry out: “Help me, Jesus!” and I will draw you back to Me.

Dear Jesus,

Guarantees are usually about something positive, but this one (about constant problems) has a negative feel to it. It reminds me of a parent saying to a wailing child, “If you keep on crying, I’ll give you something to cry about!” However, I know You well enough to trust that Your motive is not to threaten me but to help me.

Beloved, I do indeed want to help you deal with the problems in your life. There are a variety of wrong ways to handle difficulties: Some people simply pretend they don’t exist—like ostriches hiding their heads in the sand. You, however, tend to go to the other extreme: You focus on problems much more than necessary. When you give in to this tendency, you become anxious and disheartened. I am training you to pry your mind away from trouble, so you can fix your thoughts on Me. You are making progress, but you need to persevere in directing wayward thoughts toward Me.

One of the most challenging situations is when you are faced with many difficulties at the same time. You start to feel overwhelmed as your mind goes into high gear, trying to take care of everything at once. Your thoughts play hopscotch—jumping from one problem to the next, then turning around and jumping back again. If this continues too long, you become exhausted and begin to sink in the swirling sea of your circumstances. At this point, your emotional pain will alert you to your need for help. In a split second you can cry out: “Help me, Jesus!” and I will come to your rescue. As I pull you away from your problems, I draw you close to Me. While you gaze at Me, your panic begins to subside and you regain some sense of security. As you take time to enjoy My Presence, I bless you with My Peace.

Therefore . . . fix your thoughts on Jesus.
~ Hebrews 3:1

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.
~ Psalm 145:18

For He Himself is our peace.
~ Ephesians 2:14 [NKJV]

Jesus Calling

I UNDERSTAND HOW VULNERABLE YOU ARE to things that impact your senses. Because of this human tendency, My Word exhorts you to be alert and prayerful—fixing your eyes on Me, bringing every thought captive to Me. Bring Me your restless heart, and wait while I speak Peace into its depths—stilling the troubled waters of your soul.

Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
~ MARK 4:39 [NKJV]

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
