Some may say there is much to fear.
But see what obstacles we’ve overcome!
For the Lord has been walking with us every step of the journey and will continue to. Forever.
If God is for us, who can be against us?
From now on, brothers and sisters, if anything is excellent and if anything is admirable, focus your thoughts on these things: all that is true, all that is holy, all that is just, all that is pure, all that is lovely, and all that is worthy of praise. Practice these things: whatever you learned, received, heard, or saw in us. The God of peace will be with you.
~ Philippians 4:8-9
True, holy, just, pure, lovely, worthy of praise. Paul gave the church six things to focus their thoughts on. And today, these words still ring true.
Throughout the day, our thoughts race from one subject to the next in anticipation of what is to come. These thoughts can bring about fears of many different kinds. Fear of the unknown, fear of failing, fear of not being good enough… the list can go on and on. But what (or whom) can we focus on when we are fearful? The answer to that question is Jesus.
In Jesus, we see the One who understands us, knows us, and loves us. The One who died to give us freedom from the very things that make us afraid. The One who showed us love long before we woke up today.
To focus our thoughts on Jesus is to focus our thoughts on perfect peace. Today, let us focus our minds on the One who is true, holy, just, pure, lovely, and worthy of praise. Let us focus our minds on Jesus.
Jesus, may I think of you when I sense any fear today. Through you, I have nothing to fear as I know that you are with me. Amen.
Remember the words of Jesus as you go forth today:
“Look, I myself will be with you every day until the end of this present age.” (Matthew 28:20)
