Evening Prayer

BREAKING PRIDE
Jeremiah 9:23; Ezekiel 28:5; 1 Corinthians 4:7

In Jesus’ Name, I Pray God’s Will for You

I pray that you will always be humble so that God’s grace may be abundant in your life. I thank God that, in your humility, you always allow the Holy Spirit to search your heart and show you areas that are not pleasing to Him. May you ask the Lord to remove any hint of pride. Knowing that God will call you to give an account, I pray that you will guard your heart and not allow your skills or wealth to make you proud. May you not boast of your own wisdom or strength. I pray that you will continue to humble yourself before God.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Eternal Perspectives

Will we be free to sin in heaven? . . . If we answer no, we seem to lack something: free will. If we answer yes, we lack something else: moral perfection. The Heavenly question thus lands us squarely into an earthly and present issue concerning the nature of freedom and of morality and may help us to puncture one of modernity’s most pervasive and destructive illusions: the association of freedom with rebellion and of obedience with unfreedom.1218 Peter Kreeft, Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Heaven We sin because we see sin as a bargain. We unconsciously calculate that it’s worth it, that it pays, that “justice is not more profitable than injustice.” Sin seems to be simply a choice between alternative life-styles on earth. But if we recognize that all sin is Hellish, if we see sin as Hell wearing an earthly mask, we will fly to the Father in fear.

~ Peter Kreeft, [Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Heaven]

Jesus Always

I am your Treasure. I am immeasurably more valuable than anything you can see, hear, or touch. Knowing Me is the Prize above every other prize.

Earthly treasures are frequently hoarded, insured, worried over, or hidden for safekeeping. But the riches you have in Me can never be lost or stolen or damaged. On the contrary, as you freely share Me with others, you gain more of Me. Since I am infinite, there will always be more of Me to discover—and to love.

Your world often feels fragmented, with countless things—both large and small—vying for your attention. So much “stuff” keeps getting in the way of enjoying My Presence. You are worried and troubled about many things, but only one thing is needed. When you make Me that one thing, you choose what will never be taken away from you. Rejoice in My continual nearness, and let your knowledge of Me put everything else in perspective. I am the Treasure that can brighten all your moments!

I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death.
~ Philippians 3:10

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.”
~ Matthew 6:19

And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
~ Luke 10:41–42 [NKJV]

Live New Lives

For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.
~ Romans 6:4 [NLT]

Jesus came to Earth to prove God’s love in a way that we would understand. If He had come down just as a deity in all his glory and power then we may be able to dismiss Him not being able to truly know what it is to be human. His humanity is what makes his willingness to give his life for us so compelling. His actions are a model for what our lives as Christians should look like. When we become Christ-followers we give up our old lives and begin living new God-inspired lives!

WORKING FOR THE LORD
Colossians 3:23-24

In Jesus’ Name, I Pray God’s Will for You

I pray that as you work, you will work with all your heart as if serving the Lord. May you work diligently and be steadfast, even when no one is looking. I pray that you will not be satisfied with mediocre performances, but that you will strive to show excellence worthy of the name of Christ. May you understand that your reward comes from Him, and that His reward is greater than any earthly reward for your work. May God place His seal of approval on you today.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Created it All

The heavens are yours, and the earth is yours; everything in the world is yours – you created it all.
~ Psalm 89:11 [NLT]

Whether you’re modest or proud about your accomplishments, remember to give praise to the one who gave you your talents. If you’re modest, voice your praises by giving credit to the Lord. If you’re prideful, change your name to the Lord’s when shouting out your accomplishments.  After all, the Lord gave you your talents, opportunities, and even your breath.

Daily Prayer Guide

Brethren, be ye imitators together of me, and mark them that so walk even as ye have us for an ensample.
~ Phil 3:17
Thyself and thy belongings
Are not thine own so proper as to waste
Thyself upon thy virtues, they on thee.
Heaven doth with us as we with torches do,
Not light them for themselves; for if our virtues
Did not go forth of us, ’twere all alike
As if we had them not. Spirits are not finely touched
But to fine issues, nor Nature never lends
The smallest scruple of her excellence,
But, like a thrifty goddess, she determines
Herself the glory of a creditor,
Both thanks and use.
~ William Shakespeare

My Father, I pray that I may not let my life become commonplace through habit. May I not be content to rest in my virtues and let the days pass neglected. Awaken my dull satisfactions to a desire to live for the greatest, that I may have the greatest to live for. Amen.
