Evening Prayer

GIVING TO THE NEEDY
Matthew 6:1-4

In Jesus’ Name, I Pray God’s Will for You.

I pray that if you give to the needy, you will do it out of love and compassion. May you be careful not to give just to be seen by others. Remember that if you do, you will have no reward from our Father in heaven. I pray that when you give, you will not announce it with trumpets as the hypocrites do. I pray that you will not be hungry for honor. Realize that the Father recognizes those who – with the right heart – give in secret; and He will reward them in full.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Live in Harmony

Live in harmony with each other. Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all!
~ Romans 12:16 [NLT]

There’s always someone smarter than you and richer than you.  Yet when we find ourselves around someone who is less capable, pride can get in the way.  Treat those who are not as fortunate as you with respect, just like you would want to be treated from those who have more resources than you.

Eternal Perspectives

Why does God go to all the trouble to dirty his hands, as it were, with our decaying, sin-stained flesh, in order to reestablish it as a resurrection body and clothe it with immortality? . . . Because his Son paid the price of death so that the Father’s purpose for the material universe would be fulfilled, namely, that he would be glorified in it, including in our bodies forever and ever.
~ John Piper, [“What Happens When You Die?”]

Resurrected bodies are not intended just to float in space, or to flit from cloud to cloud. They call for a new earth on which to live and to work, glorifying God. The doctrine of the resurrection of the body, in fact, makes no sense whatever apart from the doctrine of the new earth.
~ Anthony Hoekema, [“Heaven: Not Just an Eternal Day Off”]

Crown of Life

God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
~ James 1:12 [NLT]

When trials enter our lives, be encouraged, that these moments are a temporary test.  God promises that though we face hard times in this life, His loved ones will receive the crown of life.  It is a blessing when God meets us in difficulty, grows our character, and lets us know He is faithful in every situation.

Truth for Today

We ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body, for we were saved in this hope.
~ ROMANS 8 : 23 – 24

Trials in a believer’s life increase his anticipation for heaven. Just as trials create a growing disinterest in the passing world, they also create a greater desire, for example, to be reunited with a loved one who has gone to be with the Lord. If the most beloved people in your life have entered into the presence of our precious Savior, and if you have invested your time and money in eternal things, then you won’t have much tying you to this passing world.

Beyond this life of suffering is a glorious future for the believer that makes us all the more desirous for the fulfillment of salvation. Thus trials give us a greater affection for that which is eternal—they help us long for the eternal city of heaven.
