It is sheer imperialism to insist that only one man-made road up the divine mountain is the right road and all others are wrong. But Christ does not claim to be a man who became God but God become Man. “No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man” (John 3:13). Christianity claims to be the road God made down, not the road we made up. That’s why the “One Way” claim is necessary: because we are only repeating the message God gave us—we are mailmen, not authors. It makes sense for God to make just one road. He starts from unity, from the top of the mountain. We start from diversity, from the bottom. Diverse human religions are indeed equal: equally failures.
