Let us carefully examine our ways, and let us return to the Lord.
[Lam 3:40 NET]
Examine me, O Lord, and test me! Evaluate my inner thoughts and motives! Look, you desire integrity in the inner man; you want me to possess wisdom. I consider my actions and follow your rules. I keep your commands eagerly and without delay. A person should examine himself first, and in this way let him eat the bread and drink of the cup.
But if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous, forgiving us our sins and cleansing us from all unrighteousness. We have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous One, and he himself is the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the sanctuary by the blood of Jesus, by the fresh and living way that he inaugurated for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a sincere heart in the assurance that faith brings, because we have had our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water.
