Men and Woman

“Men and women need each other in their [spiritual] as well as in their mortal careers. The differences in viewpoint between male and female persist even beyond the first life and throughout the local and superuniverse ascensions. … Never, even in the Corps of the Finality, will the creature metamorphose so far as to obliterate the personality trends that humans call male and female; always will these two basic variations of humankind continue to intrigue, stimulate, encourage, and assist each other; always will they be mutually dependent on co-operation in the solution of perplexing universe problems and in the overcoming of manifold cosmic difficulties.”

– The Urantia Book (84:6.6)

Dear Jesus

Although self-sufficiency is acclaimed in the world, reliance on Me produces abundant living in My kingdom.

Dear Jesus,

Walking to the world’s tempo is tempting at times. The desire to blend in can be both subtle and powerful. Self-sufficiency is certainly promoted in the world, sometimes to the point of self-deification. Though I don’t really want to be self-sufficient, I sometimes find myself trying to appear as if I am. I know better: I have discovered that depending on You is the way to live more abundantly. Whenever I face difficult situations, I am grateful I can rely on You to help me. Teach me to depend on You more and more.

Beloved, the first thing you must deal with is being overly concerned about appearances. Remember that I look at your heart, not your outward appearance. What is most important to Me should also be most important to you. Resist the desire to look good and blend in with the world. Recognize that most people who appear self-sufficient are actually struggling deeply; many are even dependent on harmful substances to help them keep up appearances.

Reliance on Me results in abundant living because it is the way I designed you to live: I created people to be dependent on Me. The essence of Adam and Eve’s first sin was their desire to be like God and thus capable of living independently. Ever since then, depending on Me continually has gone against the grain of human nature. Notice I said “continually”; this is the way I want you to rely on Me. Depending on Me in difficult circumstances is a good start. However, the more frequently you look to Me for help, the more you will find Me faithful. I sustain you moment by moment, so there is never a time when you don’t need Me. Awareness of your neediness is actually a rich blessing— connecting you to Me and My abundant supply!

The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance,but the LORD looks at the heart.

1 Samuel 16:7

“You will not surely die,” the serpent said … “you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Genesis 3:4–5

I have set the Lord continually before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

Psalm 16:8 AMP

Daily Light [Evening]

We also rejoice in sufferings.

– Rom 5:3 NET

For if only in this life we have hope in Christ, we should be pitied more than anyone.

Dear friends, do not be astonished that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice in the degree that you have shared in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice and be glad.—As sorrowful, but always rejoicing.

Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I say, rejoice!—So they left the council rejoicing because they had been considered worthy to suffer dishonor for the sake of the name.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in him.

When the fig tree does not bud, and there are no grapes on the vines; when the olive trees do not produce, and the fields yield no crops; when the sheep disappear from the pen, and there are no cattle in the stalls, I will rejoice because of the Lord; I will be happy because of the God who delivers me!

Daily Strength

Why are you depressed, O my soul? Why are you upset? Wait for God! For I will again give thanks to my God for his saving intervention.

– Ps 42:5 NET

We are experiencing trouble on every side, but are not crushed; we are perplexed, but not driven to despair;

– 2 Cor 4:8 NET

Oh, my soul, why art thou vexed?
Let things go e’en as they will;
Though to thee they seem perplexed,
Yet His order they fulfil.

—A. H. FRANCKE

The vexation, restlessness, and impatience which small trials cause, arise wholly from our ignorance and want of self-control. We may be thwarted and troubled, it is true, but these things put us into a condition for exercising patience and meek submission, and the self-abnegation wherein alone the fulness of God is to be found.

—DE RENTY

Every day deny yourself some satisfaction;—bearing all the inconveniences of life (for the love of God), cold, hunger, restless nights, ill health, unwelcome news, the faults of servants, contempt, ingratitude of friends, malice of enemies, calumnies, our own failings, lowness of spirits, the struggle in overcoming our corruptions;—bearing all these with patience and resignation to the will of God. Do all this as unto God, with the greatest privacy.

[2 Corinthians 5:20]

We are to live for Him who died for us. And we do that by representing Christ in this world by continuing His work of reconciling others to God.
